Zarf is a multipurpose utility for Scrabble® players in any language. It provides word list lookup, pattern matching, tournament-style adjudication and a timer customized for tournament Scrabble® play.

Use the Search panel to perform pattern matches, anagrams and builds to find legal words in one of five built-in word lists, or in word lists that you can download to your device. Tap on a word in the word list to bring up a list of hooks or look up the words definition on the internet.

Clabberware does not provide downloadable word lists, but theyre easy for third parties to publish, and they can be found with a little web-searching.

The Judge panel can be used to adjudicate tournament-style challenges in Scrabble®. Enter one or more words and the play will be ruled acceptable or unacceptable.

The Clock panel displays a digital countdown timer ideal for Scrabble® use. An indicator lights up when courtesy hold time has expired, as required in tournaments. Challenge buttons are available to automatically pause the timer and adjudicate in-game challenges.

Pros and cons of Zarf app for iPhone and iPad

Zarf app good for

Best: The Scrabble clock. Havent seen anything alike in other apps. Missing: Other dictionaries or a import function (e.g. for German)
Definitely a 5-star app. Love the hooks in the info panel and the probability ordering for search results. The only thing missing is a drop-down feature in the input field so you can recall past searches without having to retype them.
Terrific program. Id pay for it (assuming of course that its updated for CSW12).
Its a very nice app. As mentioned by others, it could benefit from symbols to differentiate words in the CSW lexicon. One thing I would especially like to see added is to the clock. It lacks in actually being able to use the clock itself. Its not preferable to have to read your opponents time upside down, and chess clock apps out there solve that by having a smaller version of the opponents timer count down on your side, making it much easier to check how much time you and your opponent have. This would be the number one feature I would like to see added.
App is still using the older Scrabble dictionaries. Needs to be updated to accept the new words added recently.
Unlike other word finders, results appear as you type. The dictionaries need to be updated.

Some bad moments

This app although handy is not close to an official scrabble dictionary legal words like Jo and vav amongst others are conceded illegal not good.
